  • Brazilian judoka Rafaela Silva aswell as South Korea's Inbee Park and the South African and Great Britain team return home after the Olympic Games

Returning heroes. Medal winners from across the globe are heading home after their Olympic success.

And there aren't many as popular or as local as Rio's golden girl, Rafaela Silva. Brazil's first gold medal winner of the Games went to visit the City of Gold favela where she was brought up on the outskirts of Rio.

As expected, the Judo champion received a brilliant reception, with many of the residents hailing her as an inspiration for a generation.

Somebody else who fits that description is Inbee Park. South Korea's female golf champion returned to Seoul with her gold medal firmly round her neck. She is the first women's Olympic golf champion in 116 years. That's after the sport returned to the Olympic program this year.

South Africa's athletes were greeted at Johannesburg airport with a welcome ceremony. And of course their 800m gold medal winner Caster Semenya was centre of attention.

The athletes were serenaded after a Games that saw them win 10 medals in all.

And what about Great Britain's record breaking gold medalists? Well they landed into London in a plane that had had its nose painted gold in honour of the occasion.

The team picked up a total of 27 gold, 23 silver and 17 bronze medals in Rio - a record for a an overseas Olympics.
