Italian champions Juventus have signed Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain from Serie A rivals Napoli for 90 million euros ($99 million) - £72.3 million pounds.

Juventus said in a statement on Tuesday that the 28-year-old Higuain has signed a five-year contract with the Turin club and that the transfer fee would be paid over a two-year period.

The fee paid is a domestic transfer record - beating the previous one of £50 million when Fernando Torres moved from Liverpool to Chelsea.

Higuain joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 and went on to score 71 goals in 104 matches in Serie A for the southern Italian club, the player had also attracted interest from Arsenal earlier in the summer.

His 36 goals last season helped Napoli finish second behind Juventus.
