Big steps required for peaceful Russia World Cup - Infantino

  • During a television interview in Nigeria on Monday (25th July), FIFA President Gianni Infantino discussed fans safety & secuirty and a possible 'fans passports' identification cards for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Gianni Infantino, FIFA 

     "I am not concerned at all, I am confident that the Russia authorities will put in place everything that needs to be put in place. Of course we will take the learning's to make sure that we will have a welcoming World Cup in Russia in a few years' time, where a couple of million spectators form all over the world can travel to Russia in a very good environment o experience a great summer. We are working with the Russian authorities on a so called Fan ID which will allow fans to enter Russia without a visa, and to make sure they are in a healthy environment."

    Q: That is a big step for Russia

    "Yes it's a big step and I think it has to be acknowledged and recognized and what you want is a big football celebration to take the learning's, we don't want anyone who wants to create trouble and we don't want to see scenes from Russians or others that we saw in some matches at the beginning of the Euros."
