Pellegrini baffled Man City 'so bad'

  • Manuel Pellegrini and Ronald Koeman gave their thoughts after a Sadio Mane hat-trick saw Southampton beat Manchester City 4-2 in the English Premier League on Sunday (1st May).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton manager:

"Yes, fantastic, I think. Impressed about the team performance today. From the start of the game, we had good intensity, good football. We created, from the start in the game, a lot of problems for them with Sadio [Mane], the movements of Sadio and Shane [Long]."

"[Thinking about Europe] That's at least until next week. That's [laughs] good and there is still one team that we did not beat in the Premier League and that's next week: Tottenham. But enjoy, and that was the message to the players, enjoy your game of today because we played fantastic and everybody enjoyed the game I think."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City manager:

"I always say that the best way to prepare for the next game is to win. That is why we did so well against Paris Saint Germain and before Real Madrid (in the first leg) - we won our games in the Premier League. Today, really, I don't know why we defended so bad in the first half. That was the two goals that decide the game. We scored one goal and had another clear chance to equalise but we didn't and after that, the set pieces decide the game."
