Reaction following Japan's 28-18 win over USA at the 2015 Rugby World Cup on Sunday (11 October).

"It's all about the team. The players deserve all the credit. They were absolutely fantastic today. You know, we were probably 15-20 per cent off our best today but we battled through, USA kept coming at us but we, you know, kept plugging away. Really good effort by the team today. It really showed the team had grown up. You know, to win a game like that when you're not at your best was a really good effort - full credit to 'Leitchy' (captain Michael Leitch) and the boys."

(On Japan's achievement.)

"Before this tournament, let's be honest, Japan was one of the joke teams - you know, teams would put out their B team against them, beat them by eighty or ninety points. And to come to this tournament and win three out of four games is a super effort from the team, and it just shows the quality of players that we have and how hard they've worked to achieve this."

(On impact on rugby in Japan.)

"Well, maybe tonight there was 30 million people in Japan watching the game... maybe. So, 30 million's the whole of the Australian population, plus the kangaroos, plus New Zealand and all the sheep - now that's not bad. Now out of that 30 million there's got to be parents who want their kids to play rugby, so you're going to get these kids who want to play rugby, they want to be the next Michael Leitch. There's probably doing this now (makes gesture) now in front of the mirror practising their goal-kicking. You know, it's fantastic. It's a fantastic opportunity for Japan to have a new generation of rugby players, new generation of fans, new generation of heroes. Like, these guys are heroes now.'
