  • South Africa trained and spoke on Monday (12th October) ahead of their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Wales at Twickenham on Saturday (17th October).

SOUNDBITE: (English) John McFarland, South Africa assistant coach (On preparations)

"Yeah I think so. I think we're in a good space, we've certainly improved, I think we've set a marker in terms of physicality and what we want to do in terms of the tournament, so I think it is will be a tough game on the weekend. Knockout rugby always is, it will be whoever works the hardest, who dominates the collisions, who takes their chances, it's never any different."

SOUNDBITE: (English) John McFarland, South Africa assistant coach (Q: Have you looked at how Australia defended against Wales and the intensity they brought?)

"I think we also brought our own brand of intensity into the competition. I think we are far more interested in what we bring. Obviously there are little clips you might show them, in terms of what Wales tried to do, but you know I think we've been bringing that over the last three weeks."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Eben Etzebeth, South Africa second row (Q: What have you made of the Wales pack in the World Cup?)

"Yeah I think we will still look at them during this week, see where their strength and their weaknesses are, but yeah for now we are only focussing on us as a forward pack and I think we had a good few performances these last three games. So we are only focussing on us and we will probably have a look at them later in the week."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Trevor Nyakane, South Africa prop (Q: Do people still talk to you about the Japan game?)

"The answer I always give to everyone is that, yeah we didn't do what we were supposed to do on the day, we didn't pitch as well as we wanted to. And with us, and they always ask us is it still affecting you? And definitely not, I mean we put that behind us now, we have started looking forward to the next game. So to me right at this point in time it's no long playing a factor in my head or anything, all I know is that happened and it is all in the past and we are just looking forward to our next games."
