It is known for being one of football's most dangerous fixtures, and Saturday's Belgrade derby proved no different.

There were familiar scenes of violence in the stands prior to the match between Partizan and Red Star.

The start of the match was delayed for 45 minutes as riot police were forced to call for reinforcements in order to help empty a section of the north tier.

Fans threw seats and flares at the police as they attempted to clear the area.

When the game finally got underway, both sets of fans lit flares and threw stun grenades onto the athletics track surrounding the pitch.

The match itself ended in a tame 0-0, not a surprising result given the hostile conditions players were forced to play in.

Partizan are currently five points clear of Red Star in the table with six games left to play.

After the match, police reported that 35 officers were injured and 41 fans detained.

Back in May 2013, 104 arrests were made after fans clashed at a game and burned seats following the final whistle.
