Newcastle 'licking wounds' - Pardew

  • Intro:

Reaction as a late goal from Adam Johnson gives Sunderland a 1-0 win over arch rivals Newcastle in the north east derby on Sunday (21st December).

    Script:

    Alan Pardew:
"The longer you go on in those games, you know there is a risk at 0-0. We couldn't get the goal, as much as we tried to form a goal, whichever way you want to look at that. You are always liable to over commit and if there is one fault we did today it was probably over commit at the end period of the game and we have to be disciplined in that stage. Particularly after the history of this fixture, where Sunderland have caught us on the break before and won games and they did it again today."

    Alan Pardew:
"Well I think today was a key game because the two fixtures that we had Arsenal and Spurs is difficult. But this game now compounds that, so we have to lick our wounds and prepare quickly for Manchester United. We have a tough run of games, we knew that over this period and this was always going to be a critical fixture. So Losing it is very disappointing."
