  • Intro:

Nathan Burns doubles as Wellington Phoenix defeat Sydney FC 2-0 in A-League on Sunday (21st December).

    Script:

At the start of play Sydney sat in fourth, while Wellington were a place point below in the A-League.

The game in Sydney was the first since the siege of the city almost a week ago, with all paying their respects.

The Sky Blues have won three straight against Wellington at home, and but for some quick work from Phoenix's Glen Moss in goal, that record looked like continuing.

More chances when a miss for the hosts, and they paid the price with twenty minutes to play.

Nathan Burns received the ball out on the left & the red hot striker did the rest to put Phoenix ahead.

The goal was Burns' fifth in his last four matches and ninth of the year.

And it was Burns again who provided the breathing space for the New Zealanders, the Australian now leading the goal tally chart by three.

Wellington move onto nineteen points and into fourth, swapping places with Sydney.

Perth Glory sit atop the A-League with 28 points, six better than the second place Melbourne Victory (22).
