It's not normally where you would expect to hear Premier League footballers and managers.

But Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta and manager Arsene Wenger both offered messages in support of Poppy Day on London's underground.

Poppy Day marks the launch of Remembrance Sunday which this year also coincides with the centenary of the First World War.

The Arsenal messages were broadcast in the appropriately named Arsenal station - and also Finsbury Park.

SOUNDBITE (English) Arsene Wenger, Arsenal manager:

"Hello. It's Arsene Wenger from Arsenal football club. We are proudly supporting London Poppy Day with Transport for London. As we mark the centenary of the First World War - let's give generously to those who have given up so much for us."

Chelsea defender John Terry's voice greeted commuters in Earl's Court station.

He urged people to give generously to the campaign.

SOUNDBITE (English) John Terry, Chelsea captain

"Hi. It's John Terry from Chelsea football club. And we are supporting London Poppy Day with Transport for London. As we mark the centenary for the First World War, please support the Royal British Legion who continue to help all those who have given so much. Thank you."

Tottenham's Andros Townsend and Ben Davies as well as Joey Barton and Rob Green from QPR were also heard over the tannoy on the underground network.

Remembrance Day is on November 11th with Remembrance Sunday on November 9th.
