Barcelona will be unable to sign players until January 2016.

The Catalan club had their appeal against a transfer ban rejected by the world governing body FIFA on Wednesday.

The 14 month ban was handed to the Spanish side after they had breached rules for the signing of players under the age of 18.

FIFA found the signings to have violated rules designed to prevent child trafficking.

Because Barcelona launched an appeal against the transfer embargo in April, the ban was temporarily lifted during the current transfer window, which closes on September 1st.

That allowed Barcelona to spend around $240 million US dollars strengthening during the summer with Uruguay striker Luis Suarez the headline signing from Liverpool.

Despite the appeal being rejected, the club are still able - if they wish - to sign more players in this transfer window.

Players they are believed to be interested in include Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus and Atletico Madrid's Koke.
