European 400 metres hurdles champion Rhys Williams is out of the Commonwealth Games, after becoming the second Welsh athlete suspended for a doping offence this month.

Team Wales announced that Williams has been suspended from all competitions after being charged with an anti-doping violation at the Glasgow Grand Prix on July 11th.

He finished sixth in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League meeting.

Details of the violation have not been disclosed.

Welsh team-mate Gareth Warburton, who had been due to compete in the 800 metres at the Commonwealth Games, was also charged with anti-doping offences last week.

The 30-year-old Williams, son of Welsh rugby great JJ Williams, won a European title in Helsinki in 2012.
