Southend United vs Fleetwood Town - Southend sweat on David Mooney fitness
Posted Friday, August 26, 2016 by PA
Southend boss Phil Brown will hope David Mooney is fit enough to start against Fleetwood.
The striker managed 66 minutes in Saturday's draw with Bristol Rovers having reported a hamstring problem in the previous game at Sheffield United and Jason Williams is ready to deputise.
Midfielders Michael Timlin and Anthony Wordsworth (both hamstring) are still not fit while striker Nile Ranger's ankle problem is likely to sideline him for six weeks.
Brown is keen to bring in at least one new defender before the end of the transfer window.
Martyn Woolford is in line for his Fleetwood debut at Roots Hall.
The 30-year-old moved to Highbury late last week and played over an hour in a behind-closed-door friendly with Oldham to prove his fitness to boss Uwe Rosler.
Rosler confirmed that he had virtually a full-strength squad to choose from and is unlikely to make too many changes despite seeing his team lose for the first time under him in the league at Bolton last weekend.
Right-back Conor McLaughlin has again been called up to the Northern Ireland squad so will have to come out of the team next week.
