7M View - Ambitious Dortmund Aim to Challenge Bayern in the New Season

When Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke makes it clear that he has no further plans to add players to their squad, the Bundesliga side finally stop their paces in this transfer window. After losing core players like Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer, Dortmund fans may feel gloomy about the team's prospect in the new season. But the "Bumblebee" really stun us by confirming 8 newcomers this summer, costing them a total of €120 million! As a result, Dortmund manage to set a new record of transfer investment in Bundesliga. With these 8 new signings, ambitious Dortmund are aimed at overtaking Bayern Munich in the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Among these new arrivals, Mario Gotze's return from Bayern may be the most controversial deal this summer. Some Dortmund fans still bear a grudge for his decision to join Bayern ahead of the Champions League final in 2013. After 3 roller coaster seasons with Bayern, the Germany midfielder returns to Westfalenstadion. Under Pep Guardiola, Gotze is unable to make an impression at the Allianz Arena. But Watzke is excited by his return, and believes that Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel will lift Gotze, the 2014 World Cup hero, back to his best. Gotze is also determined to prove himself in the new season.

Another deal we have to mention here is the signing of Andre Schurrle, another Germany international who has also taken part in Euro 2016 this year. Dortmund have splashed out €30 million, a record transfer fee for Tuchel's side, on this former Wolfsburg striker. During Tuchel's reign in Mainz 05's youth team, Schurrle was already a regular starter, so he is very familiar with Tuchel's football philosophy. The German coach also has little doubt the 25-year-old will become a key figure, and deems Schurrle as a perfect replacement for Mkhitaryan following the latter's departure to Manchester United.

There are 3 promising youngsters that will put on Bumblebee's shirt in the next season. Ousmane Dembele comes to join Dortmund from Ligue 1 side Rennes. He was chased by powerhouses from all over Europe, and finally Tuchel's team signed him by €15 million. He has already shown his talent when Dortmund took on Manchester United in International Champions Cup held in Shanghai. Dembele scored a stunning goal in the 57th minute, when he broke through Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo, and fired the ball into the right-hand corner. No doubt that his huge potential will boost Dortmund in the next season. Raphael Guerreiro is another name we have to pay attention to. This Portuguese left-back has helped his country win the 2016 European Championship. With his excellent performance, he is selected into the best XI squad of this tournament. This 22-year-old youngster will speed up the wing of Bumblebee. The third name is Emre Mor. This international is referred to as "Turkish Messi" with his excellent dribbling skills. These youths will definitely shine at the Westfalenstadion in the coming season.

Apart from these future stars, Dortmund have also signed some more experienced players. Sebastian Rode is featured with good quality both offensively and defensively, and he can almost play all the roles in midfield. Marc Bartra, on the other hand, can serve as a replacement for the former captain Hummels. Along with these 8 new signings, Tuchel's side will have at least 2 players available in every position of the team.

With such a competitive squad, the ambitious Bumblebee are prepared to challenge, even to overthrow Bayern's rule in Bundesliga. What's more, Dortmund also want to make a difference in the Champions League next season.

Predicted starting XI of Borussia Dortmund next season:
Goalkeeper: Roman Burki
Defender: Marcel Schmelzer, Marc Bartra, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lukasz Piszczek
Midfielder: Gonzalo Castro, Sven Bender, Marco Reus, Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle
Forward: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
