MANCHESTER bosses Louis van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini have been transformed… into pumpkins!
HANDYWORK: Louis van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini take on a pumpkin look
United fan Simon McMinnis was inspired by giant vegetables while shopping at Asda next door to the Etihad Stadium.
McMinnis then got to work in paying his own unique tribute to Van Gaal and Pellegrini - after being challenged by a supermarket boss.
Julie Feeney, people trading manager at Asda Eastlands, said: “Simon is a regular in our store and at this time of year we know he likes to buy our giant carving pumpkins to make his amazing sculptures.
UNITED FRONT: Red Devils boss Van Gaal
"I’m a blue and he’s a red, so given the time of year we challenged him to come up with something for derby day as a bit of banter and I’m well impressed!
"I’m not sure what Louis and Manuel will make of their pumpkin look-a-likes but we think they are fantastic and I reckon the Pellegrini pumpkin just edges it in terms of best likeness – so I’m hoping that’s an omen for the result of the match too.”
The football-themed Halloween creations took 25 hours in total to make, with the pumpkins weighing in at 15kg each.
CITY SLICKER: Pellegrini
McMinnis, from Poulton in Lancashire, added: “I love this time and I’ve carved all sorts of weird and wonderful pumpkins in the past.
"I’m just hoping that my Van Gaal tribute brings a bit of luck on the pitch for the reds – and they can help Louis carve his way into the Manchester derby history books.”
United and City go head-to-head on Sunday in a crunch Manchester clash.
